This one policy covers all of Wrenfield:

• the Wrenfield app, an Android app for children aged 6 to 8. It is available now on Google Play.
• Wrenfield: The Clubhouse, a second Android app, for children aged 9 to 11. It is available now on Google Play.
• this website, wrenfield.brightkidzhub.com, including its free stories and The Missing Lantern browser game.

The short version, for everyone

Wrenfield collects nothing about you or your child: not the app and not this website. There is no account, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking in either.

The app cannot go online at all. It has no permission to use the internet, so nothing a child does in it can leave the device.

Wrenfield: The Clubhouse works the same way as the Wrenfield app: it collects nothing, has no accounts and no internet access, and nothing your child does in it leaves the device.

Everything either of them remembers stays on your own device. The app keeps how far your child has got in the stories and, for grown-ups to see behind the grown-ups check, the choices your child made in each story they finished. The free stories on this website keep only how far your child has got. Nobody else sees any of it, not even us.

The full version, for adults

The app: what it collects

Nothing. The app does not ask for, gather, record or transmit any personal information about you or your child: no name, no email address, no age, no location, no photograph, no voice recording, no advertising identifier and no device identifier.

It is built without permission to use the internet. It does not request Android's INTERNET permission, so it cannot open a network connection. It is not that we choose not to send anything: the app is not able to.

It contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no third-party software development kits that could collect or send information. There is nothing to buy inside it, and it does not link out to the web.

The app: what it keeps on the device

The app keeps one small record in its own storage on the device. It holds:

• how many times each story has been finished;
• if a story is part-way through, which screen it is on and the answers already given, so it can pick up where it stopped;
• your child's choices: for each story your child has finished, from the latest time through only, the feeling they picked and what they said showed it, the choice they made, and the ending they saw. Playing a story again replaces its entry. These are shown only in the app's Grown-ups area, behind the grown-ups check, under "Your child's choices", with one or two conversation starters that are part of the story, not something your child wrote;
• the grown-ups' setting for words, voice or both.

It holds no name, age, date or time, identifier, or anything typed, because a child types nothing.

None of this leaves the device, and it is not backed up to the cloud: the app turns off Android's cloud backup for its data.

To delete it, use Reset in the app's Grown-ups area, uninstall the app, or clear the app's storage in Android's settings. We never had a copy, so there is nothing else to delete and nobody to ask.

Wrenfield: The Clubhouse: what it keeps on the device

Everything above about what the Wrenfield app collects, and why it cannot go online, is true of Wrenfield: The Clubhouse too.

The app keeps one small record in its own storage on the device. It holds six things.

• Which episodes have been finished, and how many times each one has been finished. The next episode opens when the one before it is finished.
• If an episode is part-way through, which screen it is on and the answers already given, so it can pick up where it stopped.
• The decisions the story carries forward: a few choices in the story come back in later episodes, and for each of them the app keeps the latest one your child made, so a later episode can follow on from it. The Grown-ups area lists them under "Choices that come back later".
• Your child's choices: for each episode your child has finished, from the latest time through only, the feeling they picked and what they said showed it, the choice they made, and the ending they saw. Playing an episode again replaces its entry. These are shown only in the app's Grown-ups area, behind the grown-ups check, under "Your child's choices", with one or two conversation starters that are part of the app, not something your child wrote. They show what your child chose, not how well they did: there is no score, and nothing is marked right or wrong.
• The grown-ups' setting for words, voice or both.
• The grown-ups' reading setting: whether the words are set as printed or spaced out.

It holds no name, age, date or time, identifier, or anything typed, because a child types nothing. None of this leaves the device, and it is not backed up to the cloud: the app turns off Android's cloud backup for its data.

Deleting the app removes it. You can also use "Start all stories again" in the app's Grown-ups area, which removes the whole record, or clear the app's storage in Android's settings. We never had a copy, so there is nothing else to delete and nobody to ask.

The two apps keep separate records, and neither can read the other's.

Buying the app

The app is sold only on Google Play, and paid for once, up front. Google takes the payment, under Google Play's terms and Google's privacy policy; we never see your card details. Like every developer, we receive the order records Google Play provides for its developers' accounting. We use them for that and nothing else, and they tell us nothing about how your child uses the app.

Android and Google Play themselves

Google runs Google Play and Android, and your Google account is governed by Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy), not ours. If you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics with Google on your device, Android may send Google a report when any app crashes, and Google shows developers anonymised crash and performance statistics. The app adds nothing to that and sends nothing of its own.

This website

The pages are ordinary static web pages. There is no sign-up, no mailing list, no form, no comments and no chat, and they set no cookies. Nothing on them is loaded from any other company: the pictures, the fonts, the story and its narration all come from this site. The only script on them, outside the stories, is a few lines on each Play page that open the story in a frame on a wide screen instead of a new page. It sends nothing and stores nothing.

The Missing Lantern game

The game saves the current chapter, unlocked chapters and whether the adventure is finished in this browser under wrenfield-lantern-checkpoint-v1. The catching games use keys beginning wrenfield-catch- to save best scores, pace and the next round. The game remembers whether sound is on and your music and effects volumes under wrenfield-audio-v1. Wrenfield does not receive these records. To remove them, clear site data for wrenfield.brightkidzhub.com in your browser. This also removes progress for the free stories in that browser.

The free stories on this website

There are two: one story from the Wrenfield app, and the first episode of Wrenfield: The Clubhouse. Each is the same program that runs inside the Wrenfield apps, playing one story. Each runs entirely in your browser. Neither can send anything anywhere: the page tells the browser it may not make network requests to report anything, and the story has no code that tries to.

Each keeps a progress record like the app's (how many times the story was finished, where a story part-way through got to and the answers given so far, and the grown-ups' setting), but no choices page, in your browser's local storage, under the name wrenfield/title-a/progress for the first and wrenfield/title-b/progress for The Clubhouse. It stays in the browser where the story was played; we never see it, and it is not a cookie.

To clear it, delete this site's data in your browser's settings (usually under privacy, "site data" or "cookies and site data" for wrenfield.brightkidzhub.com). A private or incognito window keeps nothing after it is closed.

What our web host processes

This website is served by Google Firebase Hosting. Like every web host, it records the requests your browser makes, which include your IP address and browser type, in server logs used to run and protect the service. We do not read those logs for anything about individuals and we do not connect them to anything else. This applies to the website only: the app makes no requests at all.

Children's privacy

The Wrenfield app is made for children aged 6 to 8, and Wrenfield: The Clubhouse, with its free episode on this website, for children aged 9 to 11. The app is sold to a parent or guardian, and the website is for children with a parent, guardian or teacher, and for the adults deciding whether Wrenfield is for them.

The laws that protect children's information start from what a service collects: in the United States, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA); in the UK, the Age Appropriate Design Code (the "Children's Code"); and in the UK and EU, the GDPR's rules on children's data. We do not collect personal information from anyone, children included, and both the app and the site are built so that they cannot. So there is nothing for us to ask your consent for, and nothing to share, sell, keep or delete. No child is asked for their name, nobody is profiled, and there is no advertising. The one exception to "nothing" is the website host's server logs, described above, which we do not use to identify anyone.

We want to be precise rather than reassuring. This page is not a legal compliance certificate. It is a plain description of what the app and the website do, so that a parent, a teacher or a school can check us rather than trust us.

If you believe we hold information about your child and want it removed, write to us. We will look, tell you what we found, and delete it.

If you email us

If you email us, we use your address only to reply to you. We do not add anyone to a list, we do not share addresses, and we do not keep messages longer than it takes to deal with them. If a child emails us, we will reply if a reply is needed and then delete the message, and we ask children to have a parent or guardian write to us instead.

If this ever changes

If a future version of the app, or this website, collects anything at all, we will publish an updated policy here before that version is released, and we will say plainly what changed. A version that collects nothing will never quietly become one that does. The effective date at the top changes with every revision, and the previous version stays available on request.
